First Church Children's Choir Presents. . . |
|

Millions of Americans have become baseball fans and now, so
have the kids in the Children's Choir. The children
have been learning about the importance of putting on the
armor of God daily. How perfectly the baseball uniform
correlates with the armor! They also have learned in
Matthew 4 & 5 that Jesus spent 40 days and 40 nights in the
desert, praying and being tempted by Satan. He
defeated Satan by standing firm and responding with the Word
of God. Jesus began His public ministry by teaching
the Sermon on the Mount and the choir has learned about His
teachings as well as The Lord's Prayer.
We invite you to invite your friends and join
the choir to the
Sermon on the Mound,
so you, too, can see the baseball analogies
in this musical!

Volunteer of the Month
Susan Rogers
To say our volunteer of the month is enthusiastic would be
an understatement! Enthusiasm comes from the root word entheos: having God within, and that perfectly describes
our volunteer of the month!
Susan
Rogers has taught children at First Church for the past 9
years. She teaches with a team of PLNU students which
includes her daughter Brittany, Kara Havens and Carly
Cosentino. As a 16-year-old, Susan was fearful that God
would not be able to use her. Then she began to teach
Sunday School. She soon learned that God had gifted her
in a special way. She loved
teaching and has been teaching ever since. |
 |
|
Susan is excited about the age-appropriate Sunday School
curriculum which Pastor Dee Kelley is crafting and which
her team is implementing. Her class also sends cards to
homebound members of First Church and those who have been
hospitalized. Recently, SDFC member Aletha Miller visited
the class and gave her testimony after the children had
sent cards following her hand surgery. This kind of
connection between the age groups is thrilling to Susan
and her enthusiasm for ministry is contagious.
As the Academic Director for Point Loma Nazarene
University’s Early Childhood Learning Center, Susan
provides a bridge between the Center and the University
where she is an Associate Professor of Child Development.
The Center is a hands-on laboratory school for college
students and, as such, is an outreach to the community.
Susan and her physician husband, John, met and graduated
from Point Loma College in the mid ‘80s and also have a
son, Alec. Thank you for your dedication, Susan, and your
passion for our children! |

in poverty. This second annual event will be held at
Liberty Station on April 19-20. Call Sarah Weber at

Special Thanks
Thank you
to all who prayed for me, sent cards and letters, provided
flowers and food, and visited during Alice's extended
illness. We missed meeting together in fellowship, but we
knew many were with us in love and prayer. Thank you for
sharing in the Memorial Service and for the fellowship at
the reception. God continues to be our hope, our salvation,
our all.
